Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community within The West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" place. In reality, the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is an extensive section that extends from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel is said to be born on the West Island, although this does not exist. Brugel lived in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. The first goal was to become a performer, but she simply outgrew her dancers. In an article from the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. After I outgrew the male counterparts, I resigned. The former dancers usually turn to acting, which is what Brugel did. An instructor in drama in her high school was able to push Bruce in the direction she was looking for. It was the teacher who recommended she try her hand at a character in the school's annual production. After trying out the role, she was chosen as the leading lady on stage in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program which she graduated with the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. In the 20+ years since Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions on the small and big screens receiving the greatest attention when she landed the character of Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in Season 1 of the series and only seen occasionally.
